About weekly term classes
Our term classes are suitable for absolute beginners right through to more experienced woodworkers.
You will be one of only 7 students, working on your own project at your own pace, under the guidance of one of our professional furniture maker instructors.
You will be taught how to design and draw up your project to prepare a cutting list, select and buy timber and use hand tools and machinery safely. You will also learn different joinery techniques and finishing methods.
Our aim is to get you hands-on with your project as soon as possible.
Our morning and afternoon classes run for an 8 week term and the evening classes for an 8 to 10 week term (depending on when Easter falls each year).
Term Class positions are permanent – for as long as you wish to continue. At the end of each term you will be asked to reconfirm your place in the class for the following term. Any vacancies will be filled from our waiting list.

Why we recommend beginners start off with a set project
Starting your furniture making journey with a set project eg. a small side table, is a great way to begin.
Throughout the process of crafting your side table, you’ll acquire skills that will significantly boost your furniture-making abilities as you progress to projects of your own choosing. From marking out your project to mastering the use of hand saws, chisels, and planes, you’ll also delve into the intricacies of sharpening and honing tools like chisels and plane blades.
The learning adventure extends to utilising a Biscuit Joiner, Domino Machine, and understanding the value of jigs in the furniture-making process.
As you soak up all this knowledge, you’ll also get hands-on experience with machinery, such as the Surface Planer, Thicknesser, Table Saw, Drop Saw and Band Saw.
Your tutor will be able to gauge your skill level and offer personalised guidance in selecting your next project.
Whilst in the process of completing your Side Table, you will begin to plan out and draw your next project. **There will be a charge for the set project’s materials.
