Description
Join Rob Fabris for this 2-day hands-on course suitable for all skill levels and learn the Fundamentals of Dovetails. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the tools and techniques used in the dovetail process.
Overview of Dovetail Joints – Types & Applications: Importance of dovetail joints in woodworking | Basic terminology: pins, tails, shoulders, angles, etc. | Demonstration of various dovetail joint configurations.
Hand-Cut Dovetails: Intro to hand tools for dovetailing: saws, chisels, marking guages, etc.| Step-by-step demonstration of layout and cutting of through dovetails by hand |Hands-on practice for participants: marking, sawing and chiseling their own dovetails.
Half-Blind Dovetails: Intro to half-blind dovetails and their applications | Demonstration of layout and cutting of half-blind dovetails by hand | Hands-on practice: participants create half-blind dovetails.
Dovetail Tips, Tricks & Troubleshooting: Tips for achieving tight-fitting dovetails | Common mistakes and how to avoid them | Troubleshooting dovetail joints: gaps, misalignment, tear out, etc.

Rob Fabris
In 1996 Rob completed “Designing in Wood” at the Coles School of Woodcraft. Since 1998 his workshop has been located in Box Hill where he has been making bespoke furniture and teaching woodworking courses.
Payment information
Payment: Full fee payment is required for all courses with your application.
Confirmation: You will receive a confirmation email of your enrolment along with a paid in full tax invoice.
Cancellation: Course places are limited. If a course has to be cancelled due to insufficient enrolments, we will notify you and issue you with a full refund or arrange a transfer to another class.
Refunds:
- If you need to withdraw from a class, please inform us immediately. If your withdrawal occurs more than 3 weeks before the course start date and you choose not to reschedule, we will refund the amount paid, minus any PayPal or Credit Card charges.
- For withdrawal within 3 weeks of the course start date or for failure to attend the course, no refunds or transfers are permitted. However, if we can fill the vacancy from our waitlist, we will issue a refund, minus any PayPal or Credit Card charges, or allow you to transfer to another course date.
